Strengthening South Asian Communities in the United States

Community Programs

SAALT's tagline - building community strength - is related to our belief that community empowerment programs are critical to the future of South Asians in the United States. Our community programs aim to build local capacity, bring community members and organizations together for forums and dialogues, develop informational factsheets and reports, and encourage leadership and public service.

SAALT holds community dialogues and forums across the country to understand local issues of concern and explore ways that community members, organizations, and stakeholders can assist in supporting local efforts.  In addition, SAALT increases civic and political participation by South Asians in the U.S. through voter education, election monitoring, and community education about issues of concern. SAALT helps to build leadership through community empowerment programs such as the Speakers’ Bureau (local group of individuals trained to present on issues facing the community) and SAALT Circles (groups of individuals in different parts of the country who implement local projects).  Finally, SAALT embarks on various other local initiatives based on the needs of the local community and important issues that may arise.

We hope that you will get more engaged in our community programs.  Please contact us at saalt@saalt.org for further information.
