FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a city or campus Coordinator:

1. If I sign up to be a Coordinator, will I have to organize the BTC event in my city/campus by myself?
  • No. You will be placed into a Coordinating team with several other local organizers. Each of you will have a specific responsibility, so work will be divided.

2. What can I expect to be doing as a Coordinator?
  • Depends on what you want to do. We need people who can help with securing venues, speakers, volunteers, and volunteer sites. Based on your skills and interests, you can chose tasks you are comfortable with.
3. What if I have no experience organizing?
  • This is a great place to start then! Although you must stay on top of the work, being a BTC Coordinator can provide a lot of critical skills to high school students, college students, professionals and everyone in between. No prior experience is necessary; though we ask you to be passionate about the South Asian American community.
4. Will I receive any guidance to complete BTC?
  • Of course! SAALT provides every Coordinator with a detailed BTC Guide to help make your event a success. In addition, conference calls will be made between you, the Coordinators, and the BTC Coordinator working at SAALT. This and other guidance will provide you with all of the advice to make the planning process run smoothly.
5. How enjoyable is being a Coordinator?
  • A lot of fun. Being a Coordinator allows you to not only develop good skills, but it allows you to be a good leader in your community. You will be joining a history of hundreds of folks who have volunteered their time to make a difference in their community. Although work is required, being a Coordinator is generally a positive experience for many people who care about being the change they wish to see.
6. Can I be a Be the Change Coordinator if I am not South Asian?
  • Yes! It does not matter what your background is to participate in Be the Change. We encourage folks of all backgrounds to be Coordinators and volunteers!
7. I still have questions about being a Coordinator. Who can I contact?
  • Feel free to contact us at btc@saalt.org if you have any questions.
